Notes: The project length would be 6 months and is ideally, a temp-to-hire situation after 6 months. This individual will most likely be periodically attending some local community events, etc. and carpooling with the Communications Manager. Otherwise, there are no travel requirements.

Parking is NOT provided. This individual would either need to find parking in a nearby lot and pay the daily rate, park at a street parking meter, or ride the bus.

WORKING TITLE:              Communications Assistant

SUPERVISOR:                   Communications Manager

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITES:  Educate and provide information to older adults, their families and the media about the Office on Aging programs, resources and services.  Schedules, prepares and delivers public announcements and speeches.  Coordinates and attends exhibits at health fairs, expos and conferences.  Develops news releases and stories.  Proofs and edits materials.  Researches and creates promotional materials.  Prepares letters for mass mailings.  Assists with routine administrative tasks.  Maintains system of electronic filing for documents, files and multimedia presentations.  Represents the department in informational or liaison capacity.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:  Bachelor’s degree in Public Relations, Communications, Journalism, Graphic Design or closely related field with six months experience in public relations, public information or communications functions; or any equivalent combination of training and experience.  Requires valid Ohio Driver’s License.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Ability to use desktop publishing software (Adobe Creative Suite – specifically, InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator and Microsoft Word.
  • Experience in public speaking, photography and videography.
  • Experience working with older adults or knowledge of aging issues.
