BWC is looking for a TS3 to support the Cognos/Tableau reporting environment built against a Data Lake, Operational Data Store and Data Marts for Business Reporting. Data sources will include a variety of Relational Databases and Semi-structured data. Reporting will include Cognos 10/11 and Tableau Client/Server.
During a given day, this position will be expected to:
• Work with Business Customers to support Business built reports in Tableau/Cognos
• Work with Business Analysts to verify requirements
• Support Cognos Server environment
• Support Business use of Tableau Server
• Incorporate normalized, dimensional, and/or semi-structured data in reporting.
• Follow design documents involving reporting against ODS tables and Star Schema
• Support Transition from Cognos 10 to Cognos 11
• Design, develop, test, and migrate to Production Cognos Frameworks and Reports
• Support Cognos batch flows and bursting triggered with an Enterprise Batch Scheduler
• Document functional specifications, technical specifications and unit testing requirements as assigned
• Direct use SQL against a variety of relational databases.
• Identify and document any inconsistencies between data model and report specifications
• Identify and document any software issues encountered.
• Perform Knowledge Transfer to BWC staff/consultants as required
Mandatory Skills:
• 10 or more years of experience developing with SQL against a data warehouse RDBMS.
• 7 or more years of experience with business intelligence tools including IBM Cognos Suite
• 5 or more years of experience with development and support using dimensional/star-schema based data structures including fact tables (commonly referred to as Kimball).
• 5 years or more experience designing and developing Cognos (version 10 and above) reports using Cognos Suite.
• 5 years or more experience designing and developing Cognos Framework Manager Model (version 10 and above)
Desired Skills
• Proficiency with Cognos 11
• Proficiency with Tableau business intelligence tools.
• Experience with HTML and JavaScript, as used for Cognos reporting
• Experience with Python
• Experience writing design specifications, test scripts and other required documentation
• Experience developing queries against normalized as well as dimensional data structures.
• Experience with MPP Databases (Vertica, TerraData, Netezza)
• Knowledge of property and casualty insurance systems
• Knowledge of Ohio business model and processes
• Experience using SQL Development Tools
• Skill in the use of organizational tools & methods (MS Excel, MS Word, MS Outlook, VISIO, Clarity)
• Ability to quickly adapt to changes, enhancements, and new technologies
• Ability to effectively communicate with business and IT staff
• Ability to establish and maintain positive collaborative relationships with team members.
