PUCO Technical Writer

The position will go through the end of FY19with the possibility of being extended into next fiscal year.

NTE Rate: $41.55
Will close to submissions: Monday August 6 at 10:00am EST
Interviews: Onsite interviews will be required

This position is intended to be part time.  (Onsite 30-40 hours per week for the first 3 to 4 weeks, dropping to approximately 20 hours per week after.  PUCO will flexible with the work schedule. PUCO’s core business hours are between 9am and 4pm, so the consultant can schedule their work hours any time within those core business hours.)

Years of Experience:

.  3 plus years.

Education:

.  4 year college degree or equivalent technical study.

The candidate will support various business process and IT modernization efforts within the Public Utility Commission of Ohio.  This will include, for example: creating business process documentation, training materials, job aides, user guides, draft content for internal and external communications and online help text.

The ideal candidate would have the qualifications specified below

  • Experience developing, enhancing, and maintaining:
    • Business process documentation
    • Training materials for automated solutions
    • Online help text and other website verbiage.
  • Skill and experience conveying technical topics to non-technical stakeholders
    • Ensure messages and terminology is consistent across all written materials.
    • Communicating messages to persons at all levels in the organization.
  • Ability to:
    • Understand and work with templates and style guides.
      • Follow quality standards.
    • Work with Application Team members to promote understanding of end-user and technical documentatio
      • When possible, conduct independent research before engaging technical team members.
    • Ask clarifying questions of technical team members to ensure accuracy of information.
    • Effectively manage multiple assignments and achieve target delivery dates.
    • Determine time estimates and schedule for own work and resolve issues in a timely manner.
      • Identify and track issues, risks and action items.
    • Communicate accurate and useful status updates.

The ideal candidate will have the following skills:

  • Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Visio
  • Must have strong communication skills; both written and spoken
  • Must have ability to work in a team environment

Day-to-Day Responsibilities would include:

  • Working with OCM (Organizational Change Management) and IT to create various documentation for existing systems and business processes.
  • Create User Manuals and Tutorials for end-users for PUCO applications.
  • Revise existing business process and IT documentation as needed.
  • Work with Application Team members to enhance their understanding of end-user and technical documentation.
  • Ensure messages and terminology is consistent across all written materials.
  • Creates and maintains a document library of written materials.
