IT Operations Engineer

POSITION SUMMARY

Network design and server engineer responsible for designing and facilitating the deployment of new IT solutions.  Functions as an escalation point for System Administrators. Responsible for the availability of systems and networks on which production applications run including installation, maintenance, and security of networks, operating systems and production applications. Responsible for the integrity and security of data and applications on servers, networks, and desktops.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTION

  • Design and deployment of IT solutions, networks and servers.
  • Maintain availability, performance, and security of servers, including operating system and applications.
  • Maintain network integrity and security.
  • Provide technical support and guidance to users.
  • Ensure all networks, servers and data are secure and recoverable.
  • Test, develop, and research new technologies in the areas of IT and specifically networks and systems.
  • Specify, configure & install hardware required for networks and potentially other related IT systems.
  • Represent the department and SORTA at internal and external meetings. Participate in local, state and national professional and industry organizations.
  • Participate in on-call rotation.
  • Facilitate the development of strategies to meet or exceed organizational and department performance goals and objectives, monitor results, and recognize employee, department and organization accomplishments.
  • Model, facilitate and encourage exemplary internal and external customer service, open communication, collaboration, participation and professional development among staff.

Education

  • Bachelor's Degree in Information Systems, Computer Science or related field (four year college or university) or combination of high level technical certifications will be considered (such as CCNA,        VCA, or higher)

Experience

  • Eight or more years related experience

SKILLS & ABILITIES

   Computer Skills

  • Current with operating systems, hardware, communications equipment, and workstation
  • Operating systems include Windows, VMWare, Linux, and Windows desktops
  • Working knowledge of word processing, spreadsheets, internet, and email
  • Network design and implementation required, Certifications: CCNA, Strongly preferred,
  • Certified Microsoft Windows or VMWare systems administration preferred (VCA)

   Other Requirements

  • Experience in Operating System Administration and Implementation,
  • Network Administration and Engineering, Network and System Security, and Disaster Recovery.
  • Experience managing outsourced IT service and cloud providers.
