Contract Position Summary

The Server Engineer Contractor, reporting to the Infrastructure Manager, is responsible for Active Directory, virtual server, and application migration support tasks in a collaborative fashion with other infrastructure engineers and FCDC technical contacts. Tasks will include, but are not limited to:

 Collapse 2 trusted Active Directory domains into an existing primary domain; migrate user and computer accounts, migrate Organizational Units, maintain account naming consistency, migrate Group Policy objects and configurations

 Build new Windows Server virtual servers in FCDC’s vSphere environment and make VM configuration adjustments within vCenter

 Assist client agency technical contacts and vendors with migrating select application servers onto new VMs joined to the the primary Active Directory domain

 Provide written and verbal analysis of current technical state, define desired technical state, and develop sequenced system changes needed to achieve desired state with a minimum of application or user down time

 Actively participate in change, incident, and project management procedures using FCDC’s ServiceNow platform and other tools as directed

 Other duties as assigned -- in cases where work is delayed by third party inaction or timing, assist with general Window Server and Active Directory domain support activities

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

To perform this job successfully, candidates must be able to perform each essential duty and fulfill each responsibility to a satisfactory degree. The essential duties and responsibilities include:

 Utilize forest- and domain-level Active Directory knowledge to plan and execute domain migration tasks

 Use standard Microsoft tools to migrate user accounts, computer accounts, Group Policy objects and configurations, and more as we collapse 2 trusted domains into an existing primary domain

 Work with VMware and Microsoft tools to build new virtual servers in a vSphere environment

 Assist outside technical experts in the setup and migration of application servers from trusted domain servers onto new VMs joined to the primary domain

 Closely coordinate changes with FCDC infrastructure team members, including using assigned change management tools and methods

 Devise server and Active Directory migration plans, including step-by-step procedures that minimize downtime and maximize the odds of upgrade success

 Plan Active Directory, Windows Server, and application server migrations and outages in collaboration with peers, application owners and users

 Build graphical and written network documentation for technical peers; documentation will cover Active Directory changes, server configurations, and unique application server configurations

 Actively utilizes incident management system and resolves server- and domain-specific incident escalations

 All other duties as assigned -- within the scope of vSphere, Active Directory, and Windows Server support

Qualifications

Education

Preferred: 2-year (Associates) or 4-year (Bachelors) degree from an accredited college or university

Required: High school education and diploma Work Experience

Preferred: 8+ years hands-on virtualized Windows Server and Active Directory engineering and/or senior-level consulting experience in a business or government environment with specific experience in multi-domain Active Directory operations using Microsoft tools.

Required: 4+ years hands-on virtualized Windows Server and Active Directory engineering and/or administration experience in a business or government environment with specific experience in multi-domain Active Directory operations using Microsoft tools.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

Preferred: Relevant Windows Server, Active Directory, and VMware engineering certification (e.g. MCSE, VCP, etc.)  English Language Skills

 Ability to read, analyze, and interpret professional and technical references and procedures.

 Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and documentation for technical peers.

 Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.

Reasoning Ability

 Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.

 Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.  Virtually all work will be completed on-site at FCDC in downtown Columbus; remote work will be limited to special circumstances pre-approved by the Infrastructure Manager and Director, Infrastructure

 Parking is not provided but is available for daily or monthly fees in the area around FCDC
