Networking Consultant
NFP Rate: $86.29
Will close to submissions: THursday 8/15 @ 10am. We will present qualified candidates to the manager as they are submitted.

Consultant will serve on an as-need basis (up to 1040 hours per year)
Resource will need to be able to work independently and not require training or technical assistance from the existing staff
Will need to be available to respond on weekend and evenings for emergency outages as needed
Would prefer local candidates within a reasonable driving distance for emergency outages

Network Consultant Requirements:

Designs and implements computer networks & internetworking services, reviews network functioning, and maintains documentation on network infrastructure configurations;

Assists in resolving difficult networking problems & answers technical questions, recommends best practices and procedures;

Reviews installed equipment, determines when to replace, and suggests replacements;

Designs and implements local area networks & wide area networks;

Installs, configures, and troubleshoots network firewalls (e.g. Cisco ASA and Palo Alto Networks);

Sets up hardware; installs network cards, cabling, hubs, wireless access points; installs software;

Configures network servers, installs network client software components; maintains physical links; designs and implements security features;

Installs & monitors uninterruptible power supplies;

Coordinates installation of or installs host connectivity, multi-platform connectivity, remote dial up; installs multiprotocol implementations (e.g., TCP/IP, NFS, SNA, LAT, X.25, X.400); configures & installs/supports multi-segmented cabling schemes or more than one LAN access type (e.g., Ethernet); designs & implements client server solutions & cooperative processing solutions;

Performs protocol analysis; troubleshoots packet transmission problems; monitors line for deficiencies; monitors Ethernet for loading, collisions & congestion; maintains LAN Monitoring system (e.g., Cabletron Spectrum; HP Openview using Simple Network Management Protocol or Common Management Information Protocol agents at node); merges node information to global monitoring system (e.g., IBM Netview or DEC EMA).
