20% of Total Work Effort: Requires 4-7 years’ experience as a Business Intelligence/Cognos Developer and/or in combination with Database Analyst experience or other equivalent work experience.

20% of Total Work Effort: Framework Manager modeling (required), Report Studio (required), and Transformer (preferred)

20% of Total Work Effort: Strong SQL experience

20% of Total Work Effort: Strong Cube/analytical Data Model design expertise.

20% of Total Work Effort: Snowflake and Star Schema design

The Cognos Developer is responsible for gathering requirements, designing, developing, and delivering high-quality output and proactive involvement in the successful delivery of BI systems; through coordination within the rest of the technology department and the business owners.

The Cognos Developer is responsible for data profiling of new source systems, data modeling in Framework Manager, and report development in Report Studio. The Cognos Developer will create custom reporting tables (such as fact and dimension) using SQL in order to adequately support BI/reporting needs of the organization. Has thorough knowledge of data warehousing and Cognos tools.

The Resource must have a good understanding of the business needs and the technical capabilities and be able to help align the BI solutions to meet the business growth objectives.

Must have:
• Strong understanding and ability in working with the Cognos Business Intelligence technical stack, including Framework Manager modeling and Report Studio (4-7 years of experience)
• SQL, T-SQL, PL/SQL techniques
• Data warehousing concepts
• DataMart design decisions in order to provide the best possible Cognos Metadata solutions
• Data profiling and data modeling experience
• Experience creating custom reporting tables using SQL (such as fact and dimension tables)

Preferred:
• OLAP (CUBE Modeling) and DMR (Dimensionally Modeled Relational Data) in Cognos 10
• Transformer
• Cognos Administration
• ETL tools such as SSIS

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Sciences or Computer Engineering or associated discipline or the equivalent experience.
• Requires 4-7 years’ experience as a Business Intelligence/Cognos Developer and/or in combination with Database Analyst experience or other equivalent work experience.
• Framework Manager modeling (required), Report Studio (required), and Transformer (preferred)
• Strong Cube/analytical Data Model design expertise.
• Snowflake and Star Schema design
• Specific knowledge of Software Deployment Requirements for BI/DW Projects (preferred).
• Effective verbal and written communications skills and effective presentation skills.
• Self-motivator, independent, cooperative, flexible, creative.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
• Analyze business requirements and profile data from source systems
• Creating, enhancing and maintaining Framework Manager models to support business requirements
• Working with business users to design and develop Cognos BI 10. reports using Report Studio with data drill-down and slice-and-dice options
• Develop and implement test plans to ensure successful delivery of a project
• Experience in designing and developing cube models using Cognos Transformer
• Experience in creating cube views using Analysis studio
• Knowledge of Cognos administration/security (preferred)
• Data modeling experience using modeling tools and methodologies
• Gathering, Documenting and Designing Data Requirements
• Strong quantitative and analytical skills with accuracy and attention to detail
Ability to work well independently with minimal supervision, manage multiple priorities, and remain flexible in a dynamically changing environment.
• Establishes and implements standards and strategies for data management, lifecycle, and quality.
• Defines and implements best practices and standards for the data modeling processes.
• Creates and maintains the logical and physical Data Models for the production and Business Intelligence Data Warehouse and Data Marts.
• Collaborates in data design walkthroughs to communicate Data Warehouse and Data Mart table designs to the development team.
• Develops prototype views and reports of the data, and works with business users both internal and external to refine their requirements.
• Demonstrates self-reliance in researching technical solutions and product functionality.
• Continuously improves existing approaches by seeking opportunity to creatively transform current business practices into fresh alternative solutions.
• Monitors production support issues and develops corrective solutions.
• Conducts performance tuning of existing data structures.

Requires strong analytical and architectural skills with emphasis on generating reporting solutions to business problems and the primary responsibility will include design; develop; implement; and maintain Business Intelligence reports and applications using Cognos version 10 Business Intelligence tools.

Formulate designs and/or design recommendations which meet various requirements; balancing the goals and constraints of existing solutions.

Convert business requirements into actionable technical requirements for current and upcoming projects.

Provide data analysis and design and to operate as an advanced Cognos level developer within BI team in the design process for approved projects

Design and build reporting and analysis tools that help streamline the business and make reporting, analyzing, planning, and forecasting more efficient

Provide the team projects with technical expertise with all aspects of the solution design and implementation, including requirements definition, data profiling, data modeling, report development, and deployment

Present and propose solutions, and alternatives, to requirements with an eye to scalability, flexibility, ease of maintenance and time to delivery. This often requires a phased approach and understanding of release schedules.

Propose potential logic solutions and propose data fixes

Work closely with project managers as well as IT department clients (business representatives) from a business and process perspective. From a technical perspective this position may engage network engineers as well as other architecture

Advanced knowledge of data analysis, profiling and conceptual modeling, and data quality
